In Memory of Tom Cornwell
Tom Cornwell will be missed by all of us. Tom and Marian have been our next-door neighbors, here on Nassau Point, for more than forty years. Beyond that, I have personally known Tom since our pre-teen days with Tom growing up in Manhasset while I lived in Great Neck. The common thread was that Tom’s cousin lived three doors down from our home and was one of my best friends. All of this set the foundation for being good neighbors when Tom and his family came to Nassau Point. Given that Tom and his family split their time between here and New Jersey and we spent winters in Florida, it was always good to have someone check on your house during times of prolonged absence. Tom was a great guardian.
Beyond being a good neighbor and friend, Tom was a kind and gentle fountain of good judgement. During his many years of service to the Nassau Point Property Owners Association as a board member, president and past president, Tom was a collaborative, reliable and a steady source of good old common sense. All of this was bolstered by his strong character and business acumen. Nassau Point is, today, a better place to live because Tom Cornwell came our way.
God rest his soul and continue to bless his family.

In the Spring of 1985, we first met our neighbors, soon to be friends, Marian and Tom Cornwell. Over the years, as the human repository of all things "Nassau Point," and with his typical community pride, dedication, and resolution to maintain its unique character, he was ever available and eager to provide the Board with context and guidance. That enthusiasm was contagious, a rare pride of community traditions.
Personally, he and Marian were always gracious hosts, his knowledge of wine and cuisine singular, and generous always especially at his famous pre-Fire Department chicken barbecue cocktail parties, long before it became popular and known as "pre-gaming."
Our northwest corner of The Point especially, and our entire community, has suffered an irreplaceable loss. Left with his memories of his ready smile and as one of those "Unforgettable Individuals," we can only express our condolences to, Marian, and wish "Godspeed" to a friend.

Those of us who spent the off-season on the Point were impressed with the Town’s clearing of our local roads, once we managed to have our driveways cleared. The Nassau Point Property Owners Association annual cocktail party took place on Sunday July 19 between 1 and 3 pm at the beautiful waterfront home of Arnold and Karen Blair. It was rescheduled because of forecasted thunderstorms. In the end the weather could not have been more perfect.
